Software Engineering unit at Department of Computing is looking for 1-2 research assistants for Summer 2024 to work in the “SusFlow – Sustainability through Information Flows” and “VST – Virtual Sea Trial” projects.
The two projects are linked to the NEcOLEAP research program by Meyer Turku aiming to develop a climate-neutral cruise ship. The role of the research group is to develop XR solutions to support these goals. More information about the projects: https://ar.utu.fi/susflow/
The research assistants will be working with the other researchers in these projects. The role would be to participate in the testing of various XR solutions developed in the project and elsewhere. They would also participate in the development of XR pilots to support the projects’ goals as well as to other project tasks. Additional tasks, such as creating teaching material for the courses and presenting the work to the stakeholders of the projects could be included.
Software engineering unit is responsible for software engineering master’s level teaching, interaction design master’s level teaching and bachelor’s level programming courses at the University of Turku. The Software Engineering unit’s research is motivated by our digitalizing society’s increasing dependency on software and the challenges of building reliable, correct, efficient, and user-friendly software predictably and effectively. Duration of the internship: 3 months
Period: during 1.5.2024 – 31.8.2024
Note: the starting date can be adjusted to meet the preferences of the applicant.
Salary: 2100 euros/month
Trial period is one month.
What are the requirements for the position?
- Good programming skills and the ability to become familiar with new programming languages and platforms.
- Good communication skills in English
We consider it an advantage if you have skills/experience in some of the following areas:
- Unity3D platform
· Mixed Reality (MR) technologies
· Game development techniques
· Graphic design skills
· Usability and user experience design (Usability and UX Design) and usability measurement
· Experience in project work
· Previous participation in research work (including research related to the thesis)
